The Making of Chinese Seals: The Book

The Making of Chinese Seals: The Book

Back then, the Chinese Seals were used to identify a person's signature or identity. In today's modern society, Chinese Seals are hardly used and they are close to being extinct. They are only bought for vintage or keepsake.

A book was designed to cover a slight history of Chinese Seals, statistics on people's knowledge of Chinese Seals and how Chinese Seals are being made. A trip to a Chinese Seal shop in Chinatown was made together with a visit to one of the local Chinese Seal maker's home, to find out more in detailed about the process of the making of a Chinese Seal.

The book's cover was made using greyboard, with the text printed on it through the use of linopaint and matt vinyl stickers (peeling out the alphabets within and sticking it on the greyboard).

Coptic stitching was used with red string in binding the cover and the pages of the books together.

This project was undertaken as part of a Level 2 BA (Hons) Project in Lasalle College of The Arts in 2011/2012.
